Kathmandu: To mark Anti-trafficking Day on September 5, MTV EXIT in association with USAID/Nepal is organising a live
concert at the Jawalakhel ground
which will feature some of our famous Nepali singers and India’s very own Sunidhi Chauhan.
Nima Rumba, Nalina Chitrakar and Kranti Ale need no introduction. They will be sharing the stage with Chauhan who was a winner of the India’s talent hunt Meri Awaaz Suno. Some of her very popular numbers are Beedi jalaile and the sexy number Dekh le from Munnabhai MBBS.
This free concert is not just focussed on entertainment, but hopes to spread the message and awareness about the overwhelming threat of human trafficking the world over, which is one of the major issues in Nepal.
A press meet held on September 4 at Soaltee Crowne Plaza where all the participants along with the dignitaries of the associated organisations shared their thoughts behind the event. The first phase of the meet was led by a short documentary that highlighted the purpose of the concert. The chief guests at the meet were Anuradha Koirala, Chairperson of Maiti Nepal, Jad Melinm, Deputy Director of USAID Nepal, and Simon Goff, Director of MTV EXIT.
Koirala talked about the dreadful
scenario of girl trafficking especially to
India and the growing loop holes
that are assisting the miscreants to succeed in this sinful act. All stressed the need for trafficking and better and quick redresseal.
Regarding the involvement of MTV EXIT in the event, Goff shared, “It’s a concert for a cause — to spread the awareness of the very issue to all Nepalis and fight this cause as one.”
“I take this as an opportunity to be a part of this noble cause and I am very excited about the show,” said Chauhan. She will be performing some of her popular songs. After Kathmandu, the MTV EXIT concerts will be hitting Phokara, Hetauda and Dharan.
