LALITPUR: A day after two culprits implicated in an abortive abduction bid were taken into police custody, the Chapagaon area in Lalitpur district remained tense on Saturday.

Angry locals took to the street demanding that the culprits be ‘extradited’ to them for retribution.

The already-tense situation turned tenser when rounds of rubber bullets fired by the riot police injured a local boy, later on identified as Manish KC, 13, escalating a boisterous clash between the police and the locals.

The injured boy is undergoing medical treatment at TU Teaching hospital in Maharajgunj.

Those arrested in connection with the case are Bahadur Maharjan of Dhapakhel of VDC- 4 and Amrit Kumar Bhusal of Dhapakhel VDC- 2, both of whom were implicated in the foiled bid to abduct Sujan Nagarkoti (9), Rabin Nagarkoti (8), Karan Nagarkoti (13) and Narayani Nagarkoti (8) on June 24.

On Friday, the locals had roughed up the duo before the police managed to take them into their custody. Following that incident, the local administration clamped curfew to prevent possible contrafrontations within the 500 metres radius of Chapagaon bazaar from 6:30 Friday evening to 4:00 Saturday morning.
