LALITPUR: A group of miscreants attacked the Sama Printers, printing press of The Himalayan Times and the Annapurna Post dailies, at Bhainsepati Monday morning.
The locals vandalised the press protesting against a news report, related to the abduction and death of a Grade XII student, published in today’s edition of Annapurna Post. The news report in question was carried out by all the newspapers today. According to the police, Khyati Shrestha, a Gra-de XII student of Jubilant College and Research Centre, Kalimati, was abducted about two weeks ago. Her mutilated body was found at Sainbu yesterday.
More than 500 persons vandalised the printing press, breaking window panes and creating extensive damage to the building. They also forcibly took out newspapers from the press and torched them. The police had to forcibly bring out the protesters who had entered the press building. Some locals and police personnel were injured during the scuffle.
The vandals also misbehaved with the security guards of Sama Printers. The mob also threatened journalists. FNJ condemned the attack.
DIG Bharat Bahadur GC said Biren Shrestha, 42, and Merina Shakya, 16, of Kathmandu were held in connection with the murder of Shrestha.
