Always the same

New Year brings new hope and aspiration, but there are a few aspects that you wish never changed. Our readers share some of their attributes, traits... they wish would remain the same in 2016, because that is what defines them as a person

As new year comes with a new hope, new experience and new feeling, every person promises to do something new in life. But I want to be the same person I was in 2015. Though, the earthquake shook us in 2015, it failed to shake my strength and my thinking to be a positive person. So, this year I want to promise not to throw myself in the path shown by others but to go through the path which I have made for myself.

— Ruby Shrestha, Bouddha - 6, Kathmandu

We always say, ‘I want to be good from tomorrow’ but we never say, ‘I want to be good from now’. We always promise in every New Year — ‘this year I will do my best’, but always fail to do so. This year I promise myself to complete my second semester of Chinese language without fail because I know tomorrow it will help me make my career bright.

— Abhinay Jayaswal, New Baneshwor

New year comes and goes but our memories about every task remain with us — be it a small or big task. Everyone wants his/her life to be better in the coming days. They prefer to earn more money so that they can fulfil the needs as per their demands. So, I would improve my habits and remain the same in 2016.

First of all, in 2016 I would like to join some creative writing classes in English to brush up my writing skills. Then, there is a public speaking course and Chinese language course too, which are essential for business. After all, I would like to be involved in this sector. Similarly, presentation and networking are other important things to do in 2016.

— Saroj Wagle, New Baneshwor

Some years are good and some are the worst like 2015, though, in 2016 I have many expectations, desires and ambitions to build my career. Learning new things, playing chess and helping people in trouble are some of my good attributes. I think I need to continue such habits for my personal development and growth and I will continue this for years. This year I’m planning to complete the task which I have aimed for. You know, sometimes what happens is we plan and think a lot but we either don’t attempt the task or we leave it half done. Thus, this year I aim to fulfil my tasks.

— Prithvi Rijal, Gulmi

I am a student, I have a habit of being friendly with all my friends, and helping them whenever they have problems related to their studies. It strengthens our friendship as well as helps me learn whilst

helping them. I feel the joy while helping them, which I cannot explain in words. I take pride in the fact that I can be of some use to my friends. I do not want to change this habit, and I want to keep it till I my last breath.

— Nitesh Thakur, Lubhoo, Lalitpur

I don’t want to change some habits and events, I want it to remain a part of my life in 2016 — like my habit of working hard and helping others. Another thing I don’t wish to change is the support of my family. And the event which I wish to last all my life is the day I topped my college and when my name was on the list of the top college of Nepal where my father and my family members were beside me celebrating my success, especially my brother. I want to maintain the same spirit of life in euphoria of success. Lastly, I wish to have unconditional love of my brother for the rest of my life and I wish to have same co-operation of my family members till the end.

— Sangita Mijar, Nuwakot, Colony

Time is like a river. As we can not stop a river from flowing, we cannot stop time. With every New Year we choose things that we want to change to be better ourselves and our living standards. I wish in this New Year my job and study both will continue. Although I am studying in Class XII, I have got a job. I do not want these things to change.

— Hari Ohm Bhandari, Kupondole, Lalitpur

Some habits are permanent. No matter how hard we try, they remain as it is. Habits I developed later in life are reading and writing which I will be continuing. Apart from this I am fond of socialising with people which is also going to continue. ‘Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise’ — I will be following this motto too. I will also be spending a portion of my salary to feed the street children of my locality like I always did. I will be keeping in touch with friends, relatives and my family. These are the main ones that I will continue among others.

— Pratibha Bhandari

The things I don’t want to change in my life this New Year is my straightforwardness. Usually people don’t like this behaviour and many of my friends get angry, but there are those who take it lightly and respect what I tell them. We all have some or the other defects and we don’t want to acknowledge. I don’t know whether people like my behaviour or not, but I do what makes me happy. But I really feel that people love to hear the sugar-coated words.

My friends, and family also comment about me and I take it positively and try to improve my flaws. For instance, my friends frankly told me about my project not being good and they gave me some suggestions, which I took in my stride and worked on it.

Those people who love me will accept me the way I am and those who don’t, I respect them too because everyone is entitled to their perception.

Three weeks earlier I started a new journey to Kathmandu city. I started liking this city despite of the crowded place and water problem. After coming here I forgot all my pain. The year 2015 became the hardest year to date. I faced many problems. The saddest incident was rejection letter from Australian High Commission for student visa. I was perhaps crazy about going abroad because all my friends were there. And I thought after going there, I would be able to be an independent person. Now, I understand going abroad to study is to learn how to struggle and after completing the studies one has to return to one’s country to utilise the skills learnt.

In 2015, I changed my attitude and I learnt to face the problems in my life. This will not only stay with me in 2016 but in my entire life.

— Rajeep Poudel

I do not wish to change the strong bond I share with my family members, friends and my near and dear ones. I want to stand out as an example of a good and genuine human being having a beautiful soul doing all the good things.

— Tejaswi Pahari, Jawalakhel, Lalitpur

I dream to spread smile to hard working and generous farmers. I wish to see happiness in the face of children working in factories, hotels, and restaurants. I can feel the pain, and suffering of poor people. I can hear the silent whisper of innocent girls trafficked. I want to help them and wish this will always be a part of my life. I wish my feelings of love, affection, kindness, and sympathy towards others will always be a part of my life in the coming years.

In 2016 there are things that I really don’t feel like changing no matter what others think about me. I will always prioritise my family. The other thing is I love enjoying with my friends who are always there for me.

— Pratik Shrestha, Buddhanagar, Baneshwor

We need to accept the inevitable things and step forward accordingly in the course of reaching our destination. I have experienced many glamorous and memorable events in 2015, which I wish would stay with me in 2016.

I have been so busy writing various articles on burning issues of the country and my personal views since mid-December. Also I have contributed a few articles in some English dailies and various blogs. I wish this remains the same in 2016.

— Sanjog Karki, Tansen -6, Basantapur, Palpa

Along with the arrival of new year, we look for novelty and to give continuity to our good habits. In Nepal, I wish the trend of giving lifts to people never changes as this is a gesture to help a stranger in need.

— Ramesh Shrestha

Everybody gets excited for New Year, hoping the new year will be much better than the previous one. Well for me it is just another new day to go with the flow. Talking about the change that I really want in my life is to update myself into super human being. And the thing that I want to be unchanged will be my age.

— Manish Gurung, Golfutar, Kathmandu

Never have I sat down to think what I am looking for in life. I am among those who take life as it comes. In the course of my life, there are a few things that happened to me in 2015, which I wish would never change. Or, if at all it was to change, I want it to get better — whether it be my relationship with the wonderful people I met or the rich learning opportunity I received this year. 2015 showered new insights into my life and highlighted a part of me I had never experienced before. I want all of it to remain

with me.

— Anuja

I recall an adage, “Change is the only permanent thing in the world.” But who would want to change the things that bring happiness, satisfaction, and success in your life, just because of New Year?

Obviously my study habit is the first thing I wish would remain the same in 2016. Studying sincerely and keeping abreast with news have helped me achieve some academic qualifications.

Secondly, positivity and calmness, which I believe as my attributes, are the two things that I want to remain the same in my life in the years to come. Maybe these characteristics do not pay you immediately as far as the current situation of our society is concerned, but being a good human being always gets you paid, at least psychologically, in long term.

— Tribikram Rajaure, Kirtipur

Everybody has a resolution for New Year — to do better than they are doing now, nobody wants to be the same. But looking from a different angle, we have certain things/habits which we do not want to change. One habit that I wish to remain the same is — my helping attitude. When I help people, it gives me a different energy and makes me healthy. Recently, I helped my friend by giving two litres of petrol which was essential to him. He was

really thankful.

— Sunil Poudel, Ghattekulo

The thing that I do not wish to change in 2016 is the long standing-peace and socio-economic engagements among various indigenous and ethnic communities of Nepal. The Himalayan nation has been known across the world for her spectacular snow clad mountains, green valleys, vast plains, majestic forests, rich biodiversity, numerous communities, spirituality, rich culture and heritage. The recent unstable situation in the nation has spoilt relation between two countries. I sincerely pray that everything stabilises in 2016 and peace returns to the country.

— Saikat Kumar Basu, Lethbridge, Canada

New Year is nothing but just a change of time. It does not bring any miracle in your life, as one may assume. Actually people only think of getting rid of bad habits but no one thinks of keeping their good habits. In 2016 I vow to abandon some bad habits while keeping my good habits. By saying good habits I mean, I am hard working, proactive, and cooperative. As these habits make my life worthy, I do not want these things to change in my life ever.

— Kamal

Many people get excited for New Year as it brings new hope, happiness and enthusiasm. Every year is not good but there is something good in every passing year. In this New Year I don’t want to change many things in my life. My habits of loving, caring, understanding and enjoying every little thing of life are some stuff that I don’t want to change in 2016. Loving, caring and crazy friends are the most important aspects in my life and I want them to be the same.

There are a few habits that I don’t want to change throughout my life. I usually greet Namaste to all my seniors wherever I see them. Many feel awkward doing that and my buddies even make fun of me.

— Manish Paudel, Katari-10, Udaypur

Habit that I don’t want to change is my nature of thinking more than once before taking any decision or action. I am an introvert and shy guy. That’s why I want to keep this trait of mine at bay by being more gregarious and active. Besides, I over think for a simple thing which gives me lot of stress. Hence, I want to overcome this. Finally, I want to evolve as a confident and courageous guy by getting over my timid nature.

The thing that I would never want to change is my love and patriotism towards my motherland Nepal. Due to unstable political and economical condition plus lack of proper opportunity most people around me, especially my friends chose to fly abroad for a better future. I, on the other hand, want to stay here and do something worthwhile. I don’t want to leave my country under any circumstance. This is what I thought in 2015 and it remains the same in 2016.
