Even after about a month and a half since the start of the academic session of the schools, the fees of private schools have yet to be decided on which means that some schools are charging exorbitantly according to their whims, and getting away with it. As a result, the guardians have for long been suffering in silence. Despite marathon meetings held by the District Education Officer the decision on the fee structure has proved to be elusive. The schools have been placed in various categories, and the fees that they should be charging have been a matter of contention. Most schools want to get over the arduous process of fixing the fees, but with the stakeholders sticking adamantly to their stand, the fees have yet to be set.

In the meantime, it should be acknowledged that those running private schools are entitled to make some profit, but they should run with the profit motive. One would expect these schools to take into account the poor financial status of the majority of the guardians who, however, would want the best possible education for their wards that they could afford.
