Science of love

Love is a mysterious yet most beautiful feeling that attaches individuals (family members, two sexes or same sex) with intense feeling of affection and care.

These amity and passionate feelings are developed through series of chemical reactions and biological changes that is going on inside the body.

Firstly, the love between the infant and a mother is developed by a hormone named oxytocin. Oxytocin formulates the sensitive attachment between the two during the time of birth and lactation.

Even a baby’s sound or touch is strong enough for an automatic signal to release milk from mother’s breast for lactation.

Secondly, the romantic love between couples is followed by chemical chain of reactions inside our limbic system and blood.

A study theorized the three stages involved in falling in love  namely lust, attraction, and attachment. Various kinds of hormones present within our body undergo various chemical reactions to excite all these three stages of love.

The initial stage of love is instigated by two sexual hormones, testosterone and estrogen. These hormones stir up the feeling of lust in both males and females.

Attraction is the second phase which makes an individual impatient for his/her crush leading to excitement and obsessive thinking of that individual.

Firstly, this stage is triggered by increase in adrenaline level instigating the stress response system and attitude reaction. Secondly, the neurotransmitter dopamine causes the pleasure sensation and ecstasy.

The functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRIs) studied the brain of new couples revealing some effects during this phase.

Typically, the newly attached couple saw a sudden increase in energy, decrease of feeling of appetite, less sleep after falling in love and more attention about the lover.

Lastly, the hormone serotonin provokes the affection between the two.

Attachment is found to be caused by two hormones oxytocin and vasopressin. Oxytocin has been found to be responsible for constructing the powerful attachment between the couple (also between mother and child).

Oxytocin forges the social connection between the couple. Since oxytocin intensifies love it is also widely known as “love hormone”.

Love is the most beautiful abstract noun which cools down even the hot blood and appeases the stone-hearts.
