Testing times

The Tribhuvan University (TU) marked its Golden Jubilee Wednesday. TU has experienced much ups and downs. At one time it was the only institute for higher learning in Nepal and had strived to fill

the void. Nepalese students did not have to go abroad for higher studies. Still there are many who question the quality of education provided by the

TU institutes. The classes for various courses offered by the university are usually overcrowded and not congenial for a sound academic environment. In fact, a lot could be done to improve TU if only political meddling could be eliminated. To make a point, the academic calendar is something that never sees adherence whether it be examinations or results.

These days vandalism is rife in the university earning it disrepute. Now that there are also other universities in the country, this varsity should try

to change with the times and keep up with the competition. Despite it charging the most nominal fees it should not compromise on the quality of education it provides. In the meantime, urgent steps are necessary to rejuvenate this oldest university so that it

can meet the high expectations by dispensing education of the highest calibre.
