TOPICS: Love your own soil

In Nepal, the rainy season is the time for planting paddy throughout the country. Most of the farmers are planting paddy on their land at this particular season.

Needless to say the Nepalese people are more likely to eat rice than chapattis. Most of us love to eat rice.

In my case, I prefer to eat rice in the day time and in the evening when I do not eat rice I feel hungry no matter whatever I eat. There is no alternative to rice for most people.

Interestingly, Asar 15 is also famous in our country as it is the ‘national day of paddy.’ On top of that, on that day farmers not only plant paddy saplings on their land, but also dance with each other after finishing the paddy planting activities.

This year the monsoon has come late in our country because of the weather conditions of the Bay of Bengal. Unfortunately, every year there is a decreasing trend of planting paddy on our land.

So, my primary concern is that the government should act before Asar 15 for the sake of increasing the planting of rice as per our demand. Although new agricultural technologies helped increase food production, there still is room for further boosting agricultural production in this regard.

Roughly, around 65.6 per cent of people depend on agriculture farming all over Nepal. At the same time, rice is one of the major cash crops for the farmers. It helps both food and industrial inputs.

Most rural village farmers depend on the rain when it comes to planting rice. Sad to say, poor farmers do not have access to other alternative ways to overcome this problem. If it rains only in small portions of land and sparsely this causes more financial burden.

As a result, their standard of living is on the decline for the entire year. I also used to plant rice when I was a small kid. Even today, I vividly remember those days when I used to plant rice along with some people who had come from the same village where I lived.

When I have gone through all of flashbacks and memories in my life I feel really amazed.

is disappointing to note that youths are not interested in these kinds of practices of our country any longer, you should learn to love your own soil. Believe me when I say soil is like our mother for it will ultimately fulfill our desire.

And lastly, love your own soil no matter where you are.
