In a report forwarded to Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare (MoWCSW), Social Welfare Council (SWC) has accused the National Federation of Disabled Nepal (NFDN) of not cooperating in investigating the charges against corruption filed against the Federation at the Commission of Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA). It has also accused the NFDN president of withdrawing salary, which is against its stated policy. Furthermore, SWC has also blamed NDFN for conducting separate audits of donors, board members and the government and of other irregularities, which include misuse of money and failure to fulfil its main responsibilities.
There are hundreds of NGOs and INGOs throughout the country, ostensibly working to accomplish their various stated social missions throughout the country. However, only a few of them are known to have been loyal to their professed commitments. Worse still, the target groups for which their social welfare programmes are directed have little been known to enjoy real benefits. On the contrary, most of their social welfare slogans are aimed at attracting financial assistance that is usually spent on activities other than actually attaining the stated objectives. The activities of NGOs and INGOs must be closely monitored to ensure their transparency and accountability and, above all, national interests.
