KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 12

Seen in these pictures are hundreds of people from all walks of life taking to the streets during a protest to call an end to violence and discriminatory regulations against women, in Kathmandu, on Friday, February 12, 2021.

In the protests organised in the capital today, artists took part in a symbolic funeral procession as a sign of protest against the increasing cases of sexual assault in the country.

One of the most recent incidents that fueled the protests is the recent case of rape and murder of a teenage girl in Baitadi, the culprit is yet to be even identified in which. Bhagirathi Bhatta was raped and strangulated to death by perpetrators in Dogadakedar Rural Municipality-7 of the district. As the perpetrator walks away with impunity, the competence of the incumbent legal system comes into questioning, further connecting to the case of Nirmala Panta, where the victim is yet to receive justice even after two years since the incident.
