A Division League kicks off on February 20
LALITPUR: The Martyrs Memorial San Miguel A Division League
Football Tournament is slated for February 20 to April 24, football’s governing body All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) informed here today.
In all, 12 top flight clubs will vie for the championship which will fare a lucrative cash prize of two million rupees and a place in the group stage of AFC President’s Cup. The participating clubs include the departmental teams of Nepal Police, Tribhuvan Army and Nepal Armed Police Force along with Nabil Three Star Club, Manang Marshyangdi Club, Machhindra Club, NIB Friends Club, Sankata Kathmandu Mall Club, New Road Team, Ranipokhari Corner Team, Samsung Jawalakhel Youth Club and Boys Union Club.
The 132-match tournament will be played in a double round robin league format, informed the ANFA. The league will be inaugurated seven days before the tournament’s first match kicks off at the Dasharath Stadium.
Earlier, the league was scheduled for February 12 but since it coincided with the National Sports Tournament organised by the PLA Sports Club, the ANFA pushed the kick off date forward.
The Rs 10.7 million league will give away one million rupees to the first runner up and half a million rupees to the second runner up. The teams rounding up in top eight will get Rs 300,000, Rs 200,000, Rs 100,000, Rs 60,000 and Rs 40,000 respectively.
The best goalkeeper, defender, midfielder, striker and coach are also assured of one motorcycle each. The main sponsor of the tournament, San Miguel have signed the Rs 2.5 million deal with the ANFA, informed the football’s governing body.
