Adhikari, Lama reach quarters

KATHMANDU: Kumar Adhikari and Chewang Lama reached the men’s singles quarter-finals of the second APF Open Lawn Tennis Tournament here today.

Adhikari eased past Niraj Thapa 6-0, 6-2, while Lama toiled hard to a 6-7, 6-4, 7-5 win over Hari Hayu. Maheswor Tiwari defeated Gaurav Shah 6-1, 7-5 to reach the last eight.

Adhikari also made into the men’s doubels second round after he and Jitendra Pariyar beat Rameshwor Thapa and Binod Gauram 6-1, 6-1. Also winning were Raju Rai and Raju Shrestha; Ramesh Karki and Ashok Singh; Gagan Maharjan and Maheshwor Tiwari; Shriyansh Karki and Hari Hayu; Samyak Udas and Shyam Krishna GC; Manoj Rana and Shree Ram Magar; Atma Ram Karki and Chewang Lama.

Tenjing Sherpa and Ashok Shakya; Ram Rana and Niranjan Shrestha; Sanat Kumar Basnet and Prem Prakash Thapa made it to the veterans doubles (above 35) last eight. Prirthvi Thakali and Dinesh Tuladhar and Dharma Shahi and Rajesh Bahadur Shrestha earned walkover.

Making into the veterans doubles (above 45) quarter-finals were Krishna Raj Ghale and Subarna Dhakwa, Suman Dhakwa and Arjun Karki.
