• Asian games selection : Athletics, Wushu players picked up
Kathmandu, October 11:
Nepal Amateur Athletics Association (NAAA) has selected athlete Kanchi Maya Koju (10,000m)
and Arjun Kumar Basnet (marathon) on Wednesday for the 15th Asian Games to be held in December in Doha. Both Koju and Basnet are the silver medallists in the 10th South Asian Games held in Colombo recently and they were picked up for their performance in the tournament. Koju claimed the silver in 10,000m while Basnet had bagged sillver in marathon.
Meanwhile, the NAAA has also selected Gagan Singh Buda Air and Akkal Bahadur Bohara, both of Armed Police Force, for the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon to be held on December 4. Gagan and Akkal finished first and second respectively in selection tournment organised by the association on Wednesday.
Wushu
KATHMANDU: The selection Committee formed under the convenorship National Sports Council member Ganga Bahadur Thapa has selected a seven-member Wushu squad for the 15th Asian Games on Wednesday.
In men’s Thaulo event, Bikash Gurung (chan quan), Gautam Dangol (nan quan) and Macha Ratna Maharjan were selected. Gold medallist in the 10th South Asian Games Bina Khadka was selected in the women’s Thaulo. Likewise, another 10th South Asian Games gold medallists Raj Kumar Rasaili was selected for the 52kg San Sau event. Satya Man Yonjon (60kg) and Dhanbir Maharjan (70kg) were the two others selected for the San Sau event. Except for Bina and Raj Kumar, all the others underwent selection tournament held on Wednesday.
Soft Tennis
LALITPUR: Nepal Soft Tennis Association selected five-member squad for the Asian Games here on Wednesday. The top five players were picked up from the 19 that participated in the selection tournament held on October 10-11. Krishna Bahadur Raut, Shyam Lama, Dipendra Thapa, Abhishek Aman Jha and Raju Putuwar Nagarkoti were among the selected for the Asiad. According to the NSTA president Binay Shah Nepal will take part singles, doubles and team event.
