Kick Boxing Tourney
KATHMANDU: International Seishinkai Karate Union, Nepal is organising the first Martyrs Memorial Indo-Nepal Cup Men and Women’s Kick Boxing Tournament at the National Sports Council covered hall on November 10-11 in Kathmandu. The tournament will feature five weight categoreis — 45kg, 55kg, 65kg in men’s section and 45kg and 55kg in women’s section. In all, 150 players from Nepal and India will take part in the two-day tournament. — HNS

KATHMANDU: Panchthar and Kathmandu advanced to the semi-finals after winning the day’s matches at the Women’s Football Tournament. Panchthar blanked Chitwan 2-0 on two goals from Bhajamaya Mongmo while Kathmandu beat Bara 3-1 in tie-breaker after a 3-3 deadlock. Bhawana KC struck twice and Indu Duwal scored one goal for Kathmandu while Rina Guwaju scored two goals and Deepa Lama one for Bara in normal time. — HNS
Kipsang, Sun win
BEIJING: Kenya’s James Kwambi Kipsang edged out compatriot David Kipkorir Mandago on Sunday to win the Beijing International Marathon Kipsang had a time of 2 hours, 10 minutes and 36 seconds, ahead of Mandago with 2:10:46 and Japan’s Takehisa Okino at 2:12:24. The woman’s race was won by China’s Sun Weiwei, who pulled away about two-thirds into the race, which started from Tiananmen Square in the center of Beijing. Pamela Chepchumba from Kenya was second in 2:34:51, while China’s Chen Rong was third, six seconds behind. China has won the woman’s title 15 years in a row. — AP
Petrov ruled out
MADRID: Martin Petrov ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in Atletico Madrid’s 2-1 win over Recreativo Huelva and will be sidelined for at least six months. Petrov, who was carried off the field on a stretcher in the 38th minute of Saturday’s game, joined Atletico in a $10 million transfer from German club Wolfsburg in July. Petrov, who has scored four goals in qualifiers for the 2008 European Championship, will undergo surgery on Monday, the club said on Sunday. — AP
