Afghanistan, Oman register easy victories

Kathmandu, November 26:

Oman and Hong Kong in Group ‘A’ and Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia in Group ‘B’ won their matches at the ACC Under-15 Elite Cup cricket tournament here today.

Oman registered a 10-wicket win over Thailand at TU while Hong Kong defeated Malaysia by one wicket at the Birendra Sainik Awasiya Mahavidyalaya. Electing to bat first, Thailand were bowled out for meagre 61 runs in 22.3 overs. Saud Haroon Khan claimed three wickets for Oman. Openers Vatsal Mukund Mehta and Kunal Prashant Pandhya guided Oman home in the 9.2 overs. Mehta scored 23 while Pandhya made 17.

Malaysia were all out for 117 in 33.2 overs and Hong Kong chased the total losing nine wickets in 38.3 overs. Mohammed Amarul Rasli scored 39 off 65 balls for Malaysia after their top order failed to perform. Aizaz Khan was the pick of the Hong Kong bowlers with 3-24. After losing openers cheaply, the third wicket stand of 77 runs between Niaz Ali (25) and Nizakat Khan (31) helped Hong Kong win the match.

At Laboratory School, Singapore scored 161-9 with a valiant half century from Rezza Gaznavi (63) but Afghanistan chased the total in 27 overs losing two wickets. Opener Hashmatullah scored an unbeaten 86-ball 87 and Anwar made 53.

At Institute of Engineering, Saudi Arabia beat Kuwait by 89 runs. Saudi made 190-8 before restricting Kuwait to 101 in 20.5 overs. Man of the match Abdul Waheed of Saudi took 5-9 off 3.5 overs.
