Afghanistan post 196-run target to Nepal

KATHMANDU: Afghanistan have posted a target of 196 runs to Nepal in their final match in the ICC U-19 World Cup Qualifiers for the Asian region on Tuesday.

Winning the toss, Afghanistan chose to bat first.

In the match being played at the Indian Association grounds in Singapore, Afghanistan secured a total of 195 runs with a loss of all wickets in 46.5 overs.

In the partnership between Afghani openers Ibrahim Zadran and Naveed Obaid,  Zadran hit a century by scoring 101 runs with five 6s and seven boundaries off 114 balls. Obaid scored 22 runs.

Meanwhile, for Nepal, Shahab Alam claimed four wickets while Dipendra Singh Airee took three. Captain Sandeep Lamichhane and Pawan Sarraf took one wicket each.

In the previous four matches played under the double round robin format, Nepal had faced a 141-run defeat at the hands of Afghanistan.

Nepal have to defeat Afghanistan in today’s match to secure its berth in the world cup. The top team after the competition would qualify for the next year’s ICC U-19 World Cup to be hosted by New Zealand.
