African Utd win Budha Subba Gold Cup
Dharan, March 12:
African United beat hosts Dharan Football Club 3-1 in the final of the eight Budha Subba Gold Cup Football Tournament today.
This is the second championship for the Afrcian United after they claimed the fourth Aaha Gold Cup in Pokhara a week earlier. Michael Adeyemo, Nurudeen Olawale Salau and Daniel Ikong scored a goal each in the 21st, 42nd and 78th minutes for the winning team while Rishi Rai netted a consolation goal for Dharan in the 53rd minute.
The hosts were looking to win the first title since the inception of the tournament, but were denied by the assembled team. Adeyemo put the African team ahead on a pass from Salau in the 21st minute before Salau doubled the lead in the 42nd minute. Dharan narrowed the margin through Rishi Rai’s penalty in the 53rd minute after Christian Chidebiere pulled down Milan Shrestha inside the box. Dharan’s hopes of comeback were vanished when Ikong scored the African team’s third goal in the 78th minue.
Treasurer of the National Sports Council GN Sharma gave away prizes. African United won Rs 75,000 while Dharan FC received Rs 35,000. Salau was adjudged the man of the match while Sudip Limbu was declared the best player of the tournament and earned Rs 25,000. Dharan FC skipper Milan Shrestha was the highest goal scorer.
Belgeri Sporting Club of Kolkota had won the first edition, while MPC claimed the next two editions. Bangladesh’s Dhanmundi Club was the champion in the fourth edition whereas MPC, MMC and Nabil Three Star Club won in the other three editions.
