ANFA Academy Under -17 team entered the quarter-finals of the Mahendra Gold Cup Football defeating Dharan Football Club (DFC) through a golden goal.

In the inaugural tie, ANFA Academy managed to take the match into extra time with a last minute Gyanendra Ale equaliser from the D-box. ANFA Academy edged out a confident DFC who shifted into defensive mould throughout the golden goal period. Dipesh Thapa Magar scored the winner.

The match between a relatively weaker ANFA and DFC turned out to be a disappointing one. ANFA controlled the game throughout but could not covert the chances which came their way. The team missed the skills of Jeevan Sinkeman and Santosh Sahukhala.

Earlier DFC took the lead in the 15th minute of the first half with Ganesh Limbu netting the ball on a Sachin Rai cross. Milan Shrestha of Dharan was the only player to be shown a yellow card.

Golden boy Dipesh Thapa Magar won the man of the match award.

On Saturday, Mahendra Police Club will take on DSP Durgapur for a place in the quarters.
