APF claim team championship

LALITPUR:Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club clinched the team championship of the second Nationwide Open Boxing Championships here today.

APF won 11 gold and three silver medals. Devendra Maharjan and Sanju Lama also brought home the individual honours for APF, winning the best male and female boxers of the tournament. APF claimed five of the six women events on offer. Mala Rai beat Parbati Giri of Makwanpur to clinch the 46kg gold medal. Bishnu Suhang of Jhapa and Nisha Gaire of Meghdoot ended up joint third. Pramila Pandey saw off Suraj Muni of Jhapa to win the 48kg title. Nangja Budha of Rolpa and Sushma Saud of Kanchanpur finished joint third.

Maya Chaudhary saw off Rupa Lama of Nepal Youth Boxing to claim the 51kg championship. Ishwori Bashyal and Sapana Thapa, both of Kaski, claimed bronze medals. Sanju Lama dispatched Nisha Tamang of Nepal Police Club (NPC) for the 54kg gold medal. Sunita Nagarkoti of Meghdoot and Shilu Dangol of Makwanpur finished joint third.

Dipa Chhetry gave APF the fifth gold medal when she defeated Pramila Rai of Jhapa in the 60kg final. Minas Rai of NPC and Indu Nagarkoti of Meghdoot ended up winning bronze medals. The only title APF failed to grab hold of was in the 57kg event. Anuradha Lama of NPC won the 57kg gold with a win over Arati Thapa of Parsa. Harka Maya Shrestha of Jhapa and Asha Hamal of Kanchanpur took home the bronze medals.

APF also dominated the men’s field winning seven out of the 10 gold medals in contention. Laxuman Tamang defeated Keshav Gurung of Surkhet to win the 51kg gold. Babulal Hemran of Jhapa

and Pradeep Pudasaini of

Hetauda shared the bronze medals. Puran Rai gave APF the second gold when he beat Suman Lama of Makwanpur in the 54kg final. Satyaram Kiju and Dhirendra Chand of Kanchapur finished third.

Purna Bahadur added yet another gold for the departmental team, winning the 57kg final against Surendra Karki of Tikathali. Yogesh Gurung of Dhading and Gopal Shrestha of Rupandehi earned bronze medals. Prakash Basnet beat Narendra Maharjan of Boshigaun to clinch another gold for APF in the 60kg category. Surendra Bahadur Kadayat of NPC and Manish Sherma of Tikathali shared the bronze medals.

Devendra Maharjan earned the fifth gold for APF in 69kg category. Devendra beat Kiran Khadka of Tikathali in final. Deepak Kumar Gupta of Banke and Kumar Khand of Nawalparasi ended up as the

bronze winners. Mahesh KC brought home the seventh gold for APF in the 91kg final when his opponent Kailash Rai of Dhading was considered medically unfit for the bout.

Other winners include Hasta Bahadur GM of Dang in 48kg, Ratna Bahadur Tamang of NPC in 64kg, Uddhav Khatri of Tribhuvan Army Club in 75kg and Deepak Maharjan of Nepal Youth Boxing Club in 81kg. Hasta Bahadur defeated Surendra Darlami of Chitwan, Ratna Bahadur saw off Bikash Bal Lama of APF, Uddhav overcame Ganesh Ram Chaudhary of APF and Deepak dispatched Min Prakash Jora of APF.

Top three boxers in all categories received Rs 5,000, Rs 3,000 and RS 1,000 respectively. Best boxers Devendra and Sanju earned additional Rs 10,000 and Rs 7,000 respectively.
