Balram, Sumina win

Kathmandu, November 22:

Balram Thapa of APF and Sumina Shrestha registered win on the opening day of the third Nation-wide Krishna Mohan Memorial Open Badminton Championship here today.

Winners in the men’s singles include Umesh Shrestha, Sahadev Khadka, Sushil Bista, Indra Mahata, Rajan Siwakoti, Gyan Bikram Shah, Raju Maharjan, Rakam Subba, Anil Lakhe, Tek Bahadur Gharti, Surya Bahadur Thapa, Kishor Rana, Ram Krishna Chaudhary, Nayan Shrestha, Sajan Kumar Tamrakar, Ajit Bhat, Irfan Ansari, Pankaj Chand, Basanta Bajracharya, Jitendra Shah, Narenda Thapa, Bishal Pradhan, Raju Paneru and Prem Gurung. Pashupati Paneru, Devendra Subba, Yam Bahadur Nepali and Suresh Thapa got the walkover win.

Apart from Sumina, the winners in the women’s singles include Sujana Shrestha, Bina Tulachan, Samjhana Khaling, Neri Thapa and Sakuntala Limbu. Dan Kumari Jimi got a walkover win.

In all, 392 shuttlers from 18 districts and clubs will fight for the championships in eight different categories — men and women’s singles, men and women’s doubles, veterans’ doubles, mixed doubles, and U-19 boys and girls’. The total prize money of the four-day event is Rs 251,000.
