Bangalore stay alive with thrilling win

DURBAN: Bangalore Royal Challengers pulled out a breathtaking victory over formidable Chennai Super Kings by two wickets, with two balls to spare.

Chasing a small target of 130 for Bangalore, however, had not been too easy. They lost veterans Jaques Kallis and Rahul Dravid early in the innigs. Their prospect of win looked further slender when Robin Uthappa departed for the pavilion with just 30 run on board.

Middle order batsmen Ross Taylor and Virat Kohli steadied their innings to keep their hope still alive. But as soon as Bangalore lost the wickets of Kohli and experienced Mark Boucher in quick succession, the Kings were back in the game. Fall of Roelof van der Merwe pushed the Challengers really into deep trouble. However, they managed to keep their nerves to register a thrilling victory.

Earlier, Bangalore Royal Challengers bowlers ripped through the Kings’ strong batting lineup with only Mathew Hayden playing a brilliant innings. He made a solid 60 off 38 balls that included five fours and 3 sixes. Despite a fabulous start that saw Chennai Super Kings bring up their hundred-run in the 13th over itself, their innings ultimately folded for just 129.

Chennai lost their six wickets for just 28 runs as Anil Kumble (2 for 12), R Vi nay Kumar (2 for 30) tiggered the collapse.

The win against Deccan Chargers, however, marked the beginning of their spectacular five-match winning streak and Anil Kumble's men would require something extraordinary to halt the Chennai juggernaut.
