KATHMANDU: Bangladesh beat Bhutan 2-0 and secured semi-finals berth of the 5th edition of SAFF Women’s Championship played at the Sahid Rangasal in Biratnagar on Thursday.

With this victory over the land of dragons, Bangladesh and Nepal have progressed into the next round with a game to spare.

Bangladesh’s Most Mishrat Jahan Moushumi and skipper Sabina Khatun struck second-half goals to ease past Bhutan today.

Despite holding Bangladesh for a goalless draw in the first half, Bhutan conceded two second-half goals after their defence crumbled against a technically superior opponent.

Moushumi scored a thumping header in the opening minutes of the second half and skipper Khatun scored late.

Nepal and Bangladesh will lock their horns in the last group fixture on Saturday at the same stadium. The outcome of the match will decide the winner of the group.

Both the teams have three points but Nepal top the group with a better goal difference to Bangladesh. The group winner will play against the runner-up team from group B in the semi-final.

In tomorrow’s game, Sri Lanka will play against the Maldives at the same stadium, according to ANFA.
