Batase Trails honours medallists

Kathmandu, April 18

Batase Trails Pvt Ltd today honoured Nepal Army’s ultra trail runners Bhim Bahadur Gurung and Samir Tamang for winning medals in the FWD North Pole Marathon held at the Barneo Ice Camp of Arctic Ocean on April 9.

Gurung finished second and Tamang came third in the marathon, which is known as the world’s coolest marathon.

National Sports Council’s Vice-president Lama Tendi Sherpa handed over Rs 10,000 to each Gurung and Tamang at the felicitation programme. After the felicitation NSC Vice-president Sherpa said he would ask Ministry of Youth and Sports to recommend the government for facilitating Gurung and Tamang.

Similarly, Tamang, who finished third in the event, said it was proud moment to carry Nepal’s flag to North Pole.

Meanwhile, coordinator Mingmar Gyalbo Lama informed that Batase Trails would organiser the third Batese Ultra Trail Race on April 25. The race will feature 85km, 37km and 12km, informed Lama.

The 85km and 37km will start from Thamel of Kathmandu and conclude at Batase of Sindhupalchok district, while 12km race will held in Batase. The organisers informed that around 150 athletes would compete in the race but the winners prizes were yet to be decided.
