BBC, Manang enter semis

Lalitpur, July 14

Defending champions Brigade Boys Club and Manang Marshyangdi Club advanced to the semi-finals of the Lalit Memorial U-18 Football Championship here at the ANFA Complex grounds today.

BBC defeated Nepal APF Club 2-1 in the second quarter-final match riding on goals from Birjesh Chaudhary and Roshan Rana Magar.

Chaudhary gave BBC an early lead when he netted in the third minute of the match. Rana Magar doubled tally in the 51st minute. Bipn Thapa Magar pulled one back for the APF in the injury time but it was too late for APF to stage a comeback.

Earlier, MMC beat Himalayan Sherpa Club 1-0 in the first quarter-final match. Sarbochha Rai scored the solitary goal of the match in the 20th minute to send MMC, who qualified for the last eight as one of the two best second runners-up, into the semi-finals.

On Monday, Tribhuvan Army Club will take on Jawalakhel Youth Club, while Nepal Police Club will play against Machhindra Football Club in the quarter-final matches.

A total of 14 clubs — youth sides of A division outfits — are taking part in the tournament organised by All Nepal Football Association in memory of its acting president Lalit Krishna Shrestha, who died of electrocution at his residence in 2015.
