Bhairahawa triumph

Kathmandu, June 20:

Region No 4 (Bhairahawa) and Region No 5 (Nepalgunj) won their respective matches in the Women’s Quadrangular Cricket League here today.

Bhairahawa defeated Region No 3 (Kathmandu) by 17 runs and Nepalgunj beat Region No 6 (Baitadi) by 30 runs.

Put into bat first, Bhairahawa scored 78-4 in 20 overs before restricting Kathmandu to 61-9. Madhu Thapa scored 23 off 36 balls including four fours while Nitu Thapa made unbeaten 21 in 15 balls that included three boundaries. Neera Rajopadhyaya, Sarita Magar and Sraddha Aryal claimed one wicket each for Kathmandu.

Kathmandu managed only 61-9 chasing 79-run target. Neera top-scored with 15 runs while 35 runs came through extras. Susmita Chaudhary took three and Nitu Thapa two wickets for Bhairahawa. Manu Khawas and Saraswoti Lamgaday took one each.

In another match, Nepalgunj scored 65-6 and dismissed Baitadi for 35 runs in 16 overs. Trishna Singh scored 12 runs in 24 balls and Keshari Chaudhary remained unbeaten on 11 for Nepalgunj. Nepalgunj earned 28 runs on extras.

Ritu Kanuija bagged two wickets conceding five runs in four overs for Baitadi. Rekha Rawal, Manisha Khadga and Janaki Bhatta claimed one wicket each.

Bhanu Lekhak top scored with seven runs for Baitadi. Sita Rana bagged three while Keshari Chaudhary, Santanu Sharma and Binu Budhathoki took two wickets each for Nepalgunj. Trishna Singh claimed one wicket.
