Bhupesh, Nisha, Jyoti win National C’hips

KATHMANDU: Bhupesh Shakya and Nisha Lama, both from Bagmati, won the 15th National Men's Open and eighth National Women's Weight-group Full Contact Karate Championship here on Saturday.

In the men's open section, Bhupesh defeated fellow Bagmati player Birendra Oli in final. Bagmati completed the clean swept of the bout when Ram Lama and Birman Lama finished third and fourth. The top four players received Rs 30,000, Rs 15,000, Rs 7,500 and Rs 3,500 respectively.

In women's Above-55kg section, Nisha Lama of Bagmati defeated Cathlin Jobhar of Holland to win the gold medal. Parbati Lama of Narayani came third, while Shanti Ghalan of Sagarmatha finished fourth.

Likewise, Jyoti Lama claimed the women's Under-55kg section gold beating Sunita Gurung of Mahakali in the final. Pratibha Majhi of Mechi and Anisha Khadka of Karnali finished third and fourth respectively.

The top four players in both the sections received Rs 8,000, Rs 4,000, Rs 2,000 and Rs 1,000 respectively. President of Rastriya Prajatantra Party Pashupati Shumsher Rana and President of Nepal Kyokushin Karate-Do Association Jagat Prasad Gauchan among others gave away prizes to the winners. In all, 32 players in men's category and 48 in women's sections took part in the two-day event.
