Birat edge past New Horizon; Ranchi win

Birat Cricket Society of Biratnagar and Ranchi Cricket Club Ranchi registered victories in the Jagshakti Sansad Cup Twenty20 Cricket Tournament here at the Sideshwar grounds today.
Birat edged past New Horizon Cricket Club of Bhairahawa by two runs, while Ranchi defeated Kalaiya Cricket Club by seven wickets.
In the match reduced to 10 over per side, Birat were bowled out for 66 in 10 overs after electing to bat first and they restricted New Horizon for 64-8 in 10 overs.
Hasim Ansari top scored for Birat with 20 off 12 balls with two sixes, while Puspa Thapa scored run-a-ball 16.
Krishna Karki finished with the figure of 4-18 in two overs for New Horizon, while Dhiraj Shahi claimed three wickets, Shakti Gauchan and Ganesh Gaudel grabbed a wicket each.
New Horizon never looked comfortable against the Birat’s bowlers as they lost three wickets in the first over.
Kushal Bhurtal top scored for New Horizon with 26 off 22 balls that included two fours and a six, while Ganesh Gaudel made 11 off seven balls. Four New Horizon batsmen were back to the pavilion without opening their accounts.
Arshalan Akhtar claimed three wickets, while Shaddab Akhtar, Puspa Thapa, Hasim Ansari and Firdosh Ansari took a wicket each for Birat.
In another match reduced to 16 overs per side due to wet outfield, Ranchi gave Kalaiya first taste of defeat. Batting first, Kalaiya made 97-6 before Ranchi raced to 98-3 in 14.2 overs.
Aasif Sheikh top scored for Kalaiya with 34 off 32 balls with three fours and a six, while Shiva Tandukar scored 14 off nine balls. Monty Singh claimed three wickets for Ranchi, while Vikash Shrivastava took one.
In reply, Ranchi batsmen punished Kalaiya bowlers from the beginning to finish the match early.
Arpit Soudik remained unbeaten for 29 off 35 balls, while Kamal Dubey scored 29 off just 18 balls with four boundaries and a six.
Basant Regmi, Sushil Kandel and Rashid Khan grabbed a wicket each for Kalaiya.
