Kathmandu, September 24:

Bouddha Football Club held New Road Team (NRT) to a 1-1 draw and Mahabir Club defeated Boys’ Union Club 1-0 in the Martyrs’ Memorial San Miguel ‘A’ Division League Football Tournament here at Dasharath Stadium. Suraj Thapa scored the lone goal as Mahabir Club registered their second victory of the league. Thapa’s goal came just before the first-half whistle when his powerful right-footed attempt from 25 yards found the net on Babulal Hastha’s back pass. After the win, Mahabir climbed to 11th from 14th with six points, while Boys’ Union Club are at the 13th position with three points. Mahabir almost took a lead in the 22nd minute, but Boys’ Union Club defender Binay Chaudhary saved a certain goal on Amar Pun’s attempt. Pun’s attempt after beating a defender rebounded to play and Pun made another attempt in an open net, but Chaudhary cleared the ball from goal line. Boys’ Union almost scored the equaliser in the 62nd minute, but Roshan Ranjit muffed up an easy scoring opportunity on Hari Thakuri’s pass inside the six-yard box.

Earlier, NRT took lead in the 28th minute through Yugal Kishor Rai. Fed by Subash Rai, Yugal controlled the ball, dodged a defender and scored into the second bar beating Bouddha FC second-choice goalkeeper Subash Neupane, who came in the starting XI replacing injured Dasharath Adhikari. Bouddha levelled the scores two minutes later, when Suraj Gurung converted the 20-yard free kick, which they earned after a NRT defender fouled Bishnu KC. Bouddha, who were impressive in their first round match when they stopped Mahendra Police Club to a goalless draw, are yet to register a win. They are at the bottom with two points.
