C Div qualifier begins today

Lalitpur, July 3:

The selection tournament for the C Division League Football is scheduled to begin at the Sano Gaucharan grounds from Friday.

In all, 60 teams will compete for four berths available for the C Division League, said All Nepal Football Association here at a press meet today. The teams have been divided into four pools with winners from each of the four pools to qualify for the League. Apart from teams from Kathmandu Valley, clubs from Ramechhap, Kavre and Dhading are also taking part in the qualifiers, informed the football governing body of Nepal. The estimated costs of the tournament is Rs 500,000, said the organisers.

Meanwhile, ANFA vice-president Lalit Krishna Shrestha said the new national team coach Birat Krishna Shrestha will be looking after the team until the AFC Challenge Cup. Nepal

are pitted in Group B along with DPR Korea, Myanmar and Sri Lanka in the Challenge Cup

slated for July 30 to August 10 in Hyderabad. Group A comprises of India, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan and Tajikistan.

“We will consider about his (Birat Krishna Shrestha) tenure after evaluating his performance in the event,” said vice-president Shrestha. Shrestha said the delay in the arrival of the German coach Thomas Flath had prompted ANFA to assign Nepal Police Club coach Birat Krishna the duty to look after the team.
