CAN announce team

KATHMANDU: Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) today announced a 20-member squad for the ACC Trophy Elite Cup cricket tournament scheduled for March 29 to April 9 in Kuwait.

The selection committee headed by Arun Kumar Satyal named Paras Khadka the skipper. Others in the squad include Shakti Gauchan, Dipendra Chaudhary, Sharad Vesawkar, Amrit Bhattarai, Pradeep Airee, Avaya Rana, Gyanendra Malla, Mehaboob Alam,Basanta Regmi, Anil Kumar Mandal, Binod Bhandari, Prithu Baskota, Naresh Budhayer, Binod Das, Sanjam Regmi, Mahesh Chettri, Rahul Kumar BK, Subash Khakurel and Dhirendra Bahadur Chand. The closed camp training begins from Monday.

Nepal are drawn in Group A with the defending champions Hong Kong, Singapore, Kuwait and Oman. Group B comprises of the UAE, Afghanistan, Malaysia, Bahrain and Bhutan. Nepal finished fourth in 2008 after losing against the eventual finalist the UAE in semi-finals. Nepal’ best showing in the event was in 2002 when they reached the final.
