CAN nominate five for ICC award

KATHMANDU: The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has nominated five personalities for the ICC Centenary Awards following the world cricket governing body request to suggest the names of the persons who have worked voluntarily for the development of cricket.

The CAN meeting decided to nominate president Binay Raj Pandey, vice president Upendra Prasad Bhattarai, secretary Sashi Dutta Pandey, member Naresh Shrestha and former vice president TB Shah for the award.

Binay Raj Pandey, who took over the presidency from Jai Kumar Nath Shah three years earlier, has served the Nepali cricket at different capacities since the last 40 years.

Bhattarai, who also owns the Baluwatar Cricket Academy and Baluwatar Cricket Club, has been actively involved in cricket since the last 15 years.

TB Shah of Birgunj contributed his 34 years in Nepali cricket, while Sashi Dutta Pandey has been serving

the Nepali cricket for the last three decades. Naresh Shrestha from Biratnagar is involved in cricket for more than two and half decades.

The ICC is expected to announce the awardees at its annual meeting to be held in June in London. Former CAN President Jai Kumar Nath Shah is the only Nepali administrator to win ICC honour — the ICC Global Award. Region No 5 (Nepalgunj) was awarded with the Women's Cricket Initiative Award by the ICC in 2007.
