Central, Western Region in final

KATHMANDU: Central Development Region and Western Development Region entered the men’s volleyball final of the first National Sports Tournament here today.

Central Region defeated Majdur Sahid Smriti Club 25-20, 26-24, 18-25, 25-21 in the first semi-final while Western Region eased past Far Western Development Region 25-19, 25-21, 26-24 in the second. PLA Sports Club (red) saw off Far West 26-24, 19-25, 26-24, 24-16 and Western Region overcame Western Region in straight sets 25-14, 25-19, 25-12 to reach the women’s final.

Western Region and Mid Western Development Region reached the semi-final in men’s football. Western outplayed ANFA U-16 team 7-1 and Mid Western saw off Majdur Sahid Smriti Club 4-1. Central Region, who had made it to the semi-finals on Tuesday, played a 1-1 draw with Eastern Region.

Earlier, a hat-trick from Bimal Lama helped PLA (red) book a semi-final berth with a 6-4 win over Far Western Region. Suraj Gurung struck twice while Suman Gauam added

the other for the winners. Mani Ram Chaudhary, Som Raut, Kuber Singh and Dipesh Khadka scored for Far West.

In women’s football, Nisha Sunuwar scored a solitary goal as PLA (red) beat Mid Western 1-0 to qualify for the semi-finals. In another match, Eastern Region overpowered Majdur Club 3-0. After taking th lead through an own goal, Geeta Kathayat and Simran Kalikote added the other two for Eastern.
