Chelsea, Roma enter knockout phase

London, December 10:

Chelsea scraped through to the second round of the Champions League alongside AS Roma and Panathinaikos after beating CFR Cluj 2-1 on Tuesday. Roma won 2-0 against Bordeaux to finish as Group A winner ahead of Chelsea.

Panathinaikos secured first place in Group B after a 1-0 win over Anorthosis Famagusta to complete the second-round lineup. Thirteen of the 16 qualifiers were settled before this week’s final group matches.

Barcelona won Group C despite losing 3-2 to visiting Shakhtar Donetsk, who finished third, while Liverpool topped Group D with a 3-1 win at PSV Eindhoven.

Ryan Babel, Albert Riera and David Ngog gave Liverpool victory at PSV, while Atletico Madrid finished second in Group D and two points back after a 0-0 draw at Marseille. Barca had already won Group C and finished with 13 points, one more than Sporting Lisbon, who won 1-0 at FC Basel.
