Clarke won't play
MELBOURNE: Michael Clarke’s recent retirement from Test and one-day play has been extended to the Twenty20 format, at least for this domestic season in Australia. Clarke said on Wednesday that he will not captain the Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League.
He had signed up for a two-year stint with the Melbourne franchise in April. Clarke said he planned to step away from all playing commitments, but said he could make a T20 return for the Stars next season. He retired as Australia’s 43rd Test captain after the fifth Ashes Test in a series which Australia lost 3-2. It ended an 11-year, 115-Test career affected by back and hamstring injuries.
Clarke is currently on holiday in Europe with his pregnant wife Kyly. The couple’s first child is due in January.
