Kathmandu, December 14:

College of Medical Science (CMS), Bharatpur, Chitwan is organising the second CMS Cup Pro-Am Golf Tournament here at the Royal Nepal Golf Club from December 17-22.

The event, which is sponsored by International Society of Medical Education (ISME), will feature tournaments in two categories — Professional and Amateur. The pro tournament will

be held from December 17-20 over 72 holes, while the amateur tournament is slated on December 21 and 22, said the organisers at a press meet today.

A total of 22 professional and 16 single-handicapped amateur golfers will rub their shoulders

in the pro event, while around 100 golfers will take part in the amateur event to be played under 7/8 stableford handicap format.

The 16 single-handicap amateurs in pro event will also include six caddies from the CMS Caddies Tournament held last week, the organisers informed.

Managing Director of ISME Pvt Ltd and CMS, Nagender K Pampati said the tournament would help towards the development of golf in Nepal. He also informed that the budget of the tournament would be around Rs 800,000. RNGC president Madhukar Yakthumba thanked the organisers and the sponsors for organising such tournament for the golfers of Nepal. RNGC captain Rabindra Man Shrestha, RNGC secretary Dorje T Sherpa, tournament committee convenor Maj NK Rai and member Srihar Rana also expressed their views.

The organisers also increased the cash prizes to Rs 300,000 from last year’s Rs 100,000 in the pro event with the winner taking home Rs 65,000. Deepak Thapa Magar is the defending champion of the event. The amateur section winners will receive trophies and awards in 18 categories.
