Lama earns share of lead with Gurung

Kathmandu, January 25

Dal Lama carded two-under 66 to earn a share of lead with Basanta Raj Gurung after the second round of the Surya Nepal Golf Tour NPGA Qualifying School here at the Royal Nepal Golf Club today.

Lama posted a 36-hole total of six-over 142 along with overnight leader Gurung, who faltered to five-over 73 in the second day.

Lama took the turn at three-under 31 and shot one-over 35 on the back nine. Lama — who was at the fourth position with the score of eight-over 76 on the first day — carded three birdies on the second, fourth and fifth holes in the bogey-free front nine. On the back nine, Lama faced bogeys on the 11th and 13th holes and carded a birdie on the 17th hole.

Gurung shot two-over 36 on the front nine that included bogeys on the second, seventh and eighth holes against a birdie on the fourth hole. Gurung dropped shots on the 12th, 16th and 17th holes to finish the back nine at three-over 37.

Bhuwan Kumar Rokka (72) was one shot behind at third position, while Dinesh Nagarkoti (71) was fourth at 10-over 146. Kishan Kaliraj, who carded even-par 68, was fifth at 147. Bhuwan Gurung, Rohit Acharya, Kamal Tamang and Bala Ram Poudel are the other players in top 10.

In all, 20 players are fighting for a total of five pro cards. Top five players with the 54-over total of 18-over will earn pro cards and they will be eligible to participate in the events of Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2016-17. Currently, 70 pros are registered with the Nepal Professional Golfers Association. Top three players will get Rs 5000, Rs 3000 and Rs 2000 respectively.
