Dauphins upset Manang in semi-finals

Dauphins Family Club of Cameroon defeated Signature Manang Marshyangdi Club in sudden death to advance to the final of the sixth Manakamana Cable Car Pokhara Cup Football Tournament here at the Pokhara Stadium today.

The second semi-final match of the tournament was decided on penalties after both the teams were deadlocked at 1-1 in the regulation period and extra time. In Sunday’s final, Dauphins will face Nepal APF Club, who had defeated Rissho University of Japan 4-1 yesterday.

After a goalless first half, the Cameroonian side took the lead in the 66th minute when Aurel Ename headed home on a long pass from Ekwem.

The Pulsar Martyrs Memorial A Division League champions, Manang levelled the scores in the 80th minute when African recruit Afeez Olawale found the back of the nets with a header following a pass from Bimal Rana.

In tie-breaker, both the team scored four goals each. In the first kick of sudden death, Bimal Rana of Manang shot wide off target and Jo Angoulo converted from the spot for the Cameroonian side. The defeat meant league champions Manang are still to win knock out tournament this season.

The winner of the tournament will receive Rs 755,000, while the runners-up will get Rs 405,000. The player of the tournament will be awarded with a motorcycle, while the best five individuals — goalkeeper, defender, midfielder, forward and coach — will get Rs 25,000 each.
