Dharan FC stun NPC

Dharan, February 11:

Hosts Dharan Football Club upset three-time champions Nepal Police Club (NPC) 4-3 in tiebreaker to enter the semi-finals of the 11th International Invitational Budha Subba Tuborg Gold Cup here today.

The hosts dominated the first half but NPC, who arrived here with their Aaha Gold Cup win in Pokhara, took the lead in the 59th minute through Ananta Thapa. Rishi Rai equalised in the 77th minute to force the match into 20 minutes of extra time.

As both the teams failed to break the deadlock in the extra time, the match was decided through penalty shootout. NPC striker Jumanu Rai hit the woodwork while Dharan FC goalkeeper Padmahang Limbu saved Chetan Ghimire’s shot. The Dharan FC goalkeeper was named the man of the match. Shekhar Limbu, Bishnu Sunuwar, Buddha Chemjong and Robin Rai converted for the hosts while Parbat Pandey, Bhola Silwal and Dipendra Poudel scored for the departmental team.

New Road Team will take on Knight Chess Club of Jhapa in the second quarter-final match

on Thursday.
