Tamang, Acharya win in playoffs after getting tied on all nine holes in U-13 category

Kathmandu, June 19

Raju Diwakar and Pratima Sherpa won the U-18 section titles of the Olympic Day Junior Open Golf Tournament at the Royal Nepal Golf Club today.

Diwakar accumulated 36 points to win the boys’ section competition ahead of Tenzing Tsering, who came up with 33 points. Bipin Tamang finished third with 32 points. In girls`section, Sherpa earned 30 points to finish first, while Kashmira Shah was a distant second with 12 points. Rebika Giri came third with seven points. A total of 11 boys and four girls took part in the 18-hole competition.

In the U-13 category, Binod Tamang won the title in playoff after he was tied with Subash Ghising on 15 points. The third place was also decided on playoff after Sadbhav Acharya and Srijan Nagarkoti were tied on 11 points. Acharya emerged victorious on the first extra hole. In girl’s section, Tannistha Dhayani finished first with 12 points, while Devasri Rana was second with eight ahead of Jetasri Rana (six points).

Nepal Olympic committee President Jeevan Ram Shrestha, NGA President Madhukar Yakthumba, RNGC Captain Maj Narendra Kumar Rai, and Senior Golf Director of Gokarna Golf Club Deepak Acharya gave away prizes to the winners of the tournament organised by Nepal Golf Association to mark the Olympic Day.

Meanwhile, NGA President Yakthumba handed over flag stick sets — donated by the Royal and Ancient — to all golf clubs of the country. Royal and Ancient had provided the NGA with 80 sets of golf flag sticks.
