Easy win for Nepal
Kathmandu, December 16:
Nepal closed in on for a place in the semi-finals after winning their third straight Group ‘B’ match in the ACC Under-19 Women’s Championship at the Prem Centre in Chaing Mai, Thailand today.
The Nepali ladies recorded yet another comprehensive win in beating Singapore by nine wickets to keep their perfect winning record intact. Opting to bat first, Singapore found scoring extremely difficult against the disciplined Nepali bowling attack, making just 71-5 in their quota of 25 overs. In reply, Nepal overcame the total in 15.4 overs losing only one wicket.
Slow scoring rates cost Singapore dear as they were nicely placed at 25-1 after Sita Magar bowled Soh Xin Ying, who scored just five runs facing 48 balls. Opener Vigneshwari Pasupathy scored 11 off 41 balls before being run out, making it 30-2. Priyanjali Jain
and Vritti Sethi gave some momentum with the third wicket stand of 34 runs but the damage was already done. Jain made quickfire 20 off 21 balls including three fours before being run out while Sethi remaimed unbeaten on 16 off 33 balls.
Sita Magar (1-18), Trishna Singh (1-8) and Binu Magar (1-6) took one wicket each for Nepali. In reply, opener Maya Rawat scored unbeaten 23 runs and Trishna Singh made 13 not out to guide Nepal to an easy win. Sarina Karki (nine) was the only Nepali wicket to fall at 34-1. Rawat, who was named player of the match, hit two fours in her 42-ball innings while
Singh’s 19-ball knock included one four. Samantha Sigham took the only Nepali wicket to fall. Nepal will take on Kuwait in the next match at the Gyam Khana grounds on Wednesday.
