Easy wins for Army, MMC

Kathmandu, February 12:

Manang Marsyangdi Club (MMC) blanked Sankata Club 3-0 and Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) routed Bouddha Football Club (BFC) 4-0 in the Martyrs Memorial San Miguel ‘A’ Division League here at Dasharath Stadium today.

Matches between New Road Team (NRT) and Boys’ Union Club (BUC) and Jawalakhel Youth Club (JYC) and Friends’ Club ended in 1-1 draws at Armed Police Stadium in Halchowk.

Skipper Janamat Karki scored a hat-trick and Biswo Bairag Samal added another for TAC. Nurudeen Olawale Salau struck twice and Basanta Gauchan scored one for MMC. Binay Chaudhary and Kiran Kapali scored one each for BUC and NRT respectively, while Dipesh Thapa scored for JYC and Shishir Adhikari levelled for Friends.

Janamat Karki put TAC ahead in the first minute of the game following Samal’s cross.

Karki doubled the lead in the 22nd minute scoring on a pass from Shiva Chaudhary before Samal added another five minutes later.

Karki completed his hat-trick in the 36th minute and joined Obagbimiro Junior in the top scorers’ list with 21 goals. Karki would have left Junior far behind had he not wasted as many as easy scoring opportunities.

Salau had an easy job putting MMC ahead on a perfect cross from the newly signed Felix Chimaokwu in the 27th minute. Bikash Narayan Shrestha ruined an equaliser in the 72nd minute as he shot wide in a solitary encounter with MMC goalie Bikash Malla.

MMC, then, scored two goals in two minutes to bring the game in their grip. Basnata Gauchan scored in the 85th minute and Salau added another a minute later. Salau exhibited his superb skill beating as many as four defenders before firing past Sankata goalkeeper Sangeet Rajak.

At Halchowk, Binay Chaudhary gave BUC the lead in the 59th minute but NRT’s Kiran Kapali deprived them of the three clear points equalising two minutes into the second half injury time. In another match, Dipesh Thapa scored for JYC in the 20th minute only to levelled by Shishir Adhikari in the 32nd minute.

Bouddha relegated

KATHMANDU: With two rounds to go, Bouddha Football Club (BFC) has been relegated from the ‘A’ Division after its 0-4 loss against Tribhuvan Army Club on Sunday. BFC earned 11 points with two wins, five draws and 19 losses. The club rose to the premiere league in quick pace and went down the same way. It played ‘C’ Division league in 2004 and went on to climb the ladders until it was promoted to the upper league as runner-up to Machhindra FC from the ‘B’ Division last year. Machhindra FC and Mahabir Club, who have 20 and 19 points respectively, are trying hard not to become the second club to be relegated. — HNS
