LALITPUR: National Sports Council is set to organise the National Futsal Tournament for sexual and gender minorities from April 20-21.

A total of seven teams — five regions and two from Kathmandu valley — will compete in the event which is being held under the auspices of Blue Diamond Society. Top three teams will get Rs 50,000, Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively. NSC Member Secretary Keshab Kumar Bista said the event was organised to provide the members of sexual and gender minorities with the opportunity to showcase their sporting skills.

“I am happy that this is the first such event organised by the state in South Asia region,” Bista said. Blue Diamond Society’s Director Manisha Dhakal thanked the NSC for taking the initiation. — HNS
