Stephens, Morgan claim Boater Cross event titles

Garen Stephens of the United States and Beth Morgan of United Kingdom won the Boater Cross events under the Himalayan Water Challenge 2016, an international kayaking tournament, in Seti River here today.

Stephens won the men’s section title, finishing ahead of Noah Phillips of United Kingdom and Nepal’s Dipesh Gurung. Similarly, Morgan came first in the women’s category. Kirra Paulus of the USA and Susan Doyle of Ireland were second and third respectively.

A total of 60 participants from Nepal, USA, UK, Japan and Spain are competing in the three-day competition that kicked off on Monday.

As per the Nepal Association of Rafting Agencies, the Extreme Slalom event will be held on Wednesday. The event is held over the one-kilometre stretch beginning from Mardi confluence. Top three players in senior section will receive Rs 50,000, Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively, while the junior section winners will get Rs 30,000, Rs 25,000 and Rs 20,000.

Similarly, top three players in women’s category will earn Rs 25,000, Rs 20,000 and Rs 15,000 respectively.
