LALITPUR: Anil Gautam of Rolpa entered the men’s 48kg quarter-finals with a win over Bijay Tamang of Dhading at the second Nationwide Open Boxing Championships here today.

Laxman Shilakar of Central Boxing defeated Yuvaraj Gurung of Jhapa to join Gautam in the last eight. Also making it through to the last eight were Hasta Bahadur GM and Chandra Jyoti Thapa of Dang, Manoj Maharjan of Nepal Youth Boxing, Surendra Darlami of Chitwan, Dhrista Kumar Shahi of Surkhet and Suresh Budha Magar of Boshigaun.

Advancing to the 51kg quarters were Pradeep Pudasaini of Hetauda, Rajesh Kumal of Chitwan, Dipendra Patel of Parsa, Keshav Gurung of Surkhet, Prakash Shrestha of Tikathali, Laxuman Tamang of Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club, Babulal Hemran of Jhapa and Top Bahadur Bohara of Dang.

Pudasaini saw off Naresh Paheli of Jhapa, Kumal beat Niranjan Kumar Shrestha of Makwanpur, Patel overcame Sudip Bhattarai of Jhapa, Gurung ousted Hari Bahadur Sunuwar of Salyan, Shrestha defeated Sandeep Kumar Baishya of Banke, Tamang eliminated Raj Kumar Maharjan of Boshigaun, Hemran dispatched Rajan Balami of Youth Star and Bohara beat Sanjay Karki of Tikathali.

Purna Bahadur Lama of APF got the better of Narendra RC of Surkhet to secure the quarter-final berth in the 57kg bout. Also in the same weight category, Yogesh Gurung of Dhading beat Sunil Dhimal of Jhapa, Nilkantha Khanal of Kapilvastu defeated Sabal Manandhar of Patan Boxing, Dhan Kumar Mainali of Tikathali saw off Arjun Basnet of Dang, Gopal Shrestha of Rupandehi ousted Sumit Maharjan of Parsa, Bijay Shrestha of Makwanpur overcame Prakash Pun of Salyan and Surendra Karki of Tikathali dispatched his local teammate Umesh Rijal.

Dipendra Shrestha of Makwanpur defeated Gagan Jung Khadka and entered the men’s 60kg quarter-finals. Surendra Shrestha of Central Boxing saw off Sunil Jaiswal of Nepal Youth Boxing and Narendra Maharjan of Bosigaun overcame Binod Chaudhary of Central Boxing to join Dipendra in the last eight.

Making it to the quarter-finals in the men’s 64kg category was Ratna Bahadur Tamang of Nepal Police Club. Tamang beat Kundan Jaiswal of Parsa.

In the women’s 46kg category, Bishnu Suhang of Jhapa defeated Lalita Maharjan of Boshigaun, Mala Rai of APF saw off Sunita DC of Dang and Nisha Gaire of Meghdoot overcame Amrita Rana Magar of Tikathali.
