Gladiators advance to playoff, Patriots beat Kings XI

KATHMANDU: Bhairahawa Gladiators have advanced to the playoff after winning three games in trot and Lalitpur Patriots thrashed Kathmandu Kings XI by 10 wickets during the third edition of the Everest Premier League in Kathmandu on Wednesday.

Gladiators made it to the next round after defeating Biratnagar Warriors by four wickets and two balls remaining at the TU Cricket ground today, with two games to spare.

After winning the toss, Gladiator's skipper Sarad Vesawakar invited Paras Khadka led Warriors to take the first strike.

However, Warriors were bundled out for a paltry score of 91 runs all out inside 19 overs after Gladiator's Mohammad Naveed riped through Warriors batting order with four wickets.

In reply, Gladiators cantered to four wickets victory in a low scoring thriller.

Gladiator's foreign recruit United Arab Emirates Mohammad Naveed was awarded man of the match for his devastating spell of fast bowling in a seaming and swinging condition in the valley.

In another match of the day, Kathmandu Kings XI posted 109 all out in 19.5 overs before capitulating to10 wickets victory to inform Lalitpur Patriots at the TU stadium.

Man-of-the-match Pawan Sarraf clinched three Kings scalps before Indian batsman Gaurav Tomar blazed unbeaten 80 runs in 35 balls with nine fours and five sixes, with 56 balls to spare in the innings.

Jaykishan Kolsawala contributed run-a-ball 27 runs in the winning cause. With this comprehensive victory, Patriots have also advanced into the next round of the tournament.

Meanwhile, Patriots lead the six-team table on six points from four matches whereas Chitwan Tigers and Pokhara Rhinos are yet to open their accounts.
