Parki, Basi claim marathon golds

Nepal APF Club athlete Gopi Chand Parki and Tribhuvan Army Club’s Sarita Basi won the Kathmandu Marathon titles here at the Dasharath Stadium today.

Parki clocked two hours, 23 minutes and 25 seconds to win the men’s section gold medal beating TAC’s Homlal Shrestha by just 0.3 seconds, while another Army athlete Khadag Bahadur Khadka came third in two hours, 25 minutes and 25 seconds.

In the women’s section, Basi clocked three hours, 24 minutes and 28 seconds, while Balika KC came second with the timing of four hours, 30 minutes and 42 seconds.

Meanwhile, TAC athletes dominated half marathon races. In the men’s section, Krishna Basnet took one hour, eight minutes and 32 seconds to win the gold medal, while his teammates Rajan Khatri came second in 1:09:31 and Takraj Katwal finished third in 1:09:50. In women’s category, Bishworupa Budha clocked one hour, 20 minutes and 23 seconds to finish first, while Reshee Basnet came second in 1:25:53 and Brinda Shrestha was third in 1:27:24.

In five-km event for men, Ajit Kumar Yadav (17 minutes and 32.73 seconds), Ramji Basnet (17:49.83) and Ramesh Magarati (18:21.81) bagged top three spots, while Phulmati Rana (20.18), Santoshi Shrestha (20.22) and Sanu Maya Karki (21.50) did so in women’s section. In school boys section, Subash Thapa (19.47), Baibhav Bikram Pariyar (19.58) and Surendra Chapagain (20.10) won gold, silver and bronze medals respectively, while Humi Budha Magar (22.18), Kajal Bista (23.59) and Asmita Shrestha (24.25) were top three athletes in girls’ category.

In three-km wheelchair race, Ram Bahadur Tamang (10.50), Prem BK (12.44) and Rupesh Khatri (12.45) won the top three positions in men’s category, while Lali Tamang (16.33), Rajani Rai (17.58) and Sharmila Thokar (18.39) won gold, silver and bronze medals respectively in women’s category.
