Gurung clinches CMS Cup

Kathmandu, December 22:

Lachhimi Prasad Gurung won the CMS Cup Open Golf Tournament organised by College of Medical Science under the sponsorship of ISME Pvt Ltd at the Royal Nepal Golf Club today.

Played at 7/8-handicap format, none of the 55 golfers — who played on the second day of the tournament — could overcome Gurung’s total of 39 stable ford points. Gurung had played his round on Friday.

Indra Thapa finished second with 37 points, one more than Dawa Sherpa, who was second after the first day. Sherpa, however, won the senior section title ahead of Capt Machhindra Bahadur Rai, who earned 34 stableford points.

Kalyani Moktan bagged the ladies section trophy with 33 points, while Shastika Shrestha came second with 30 points. Dorji Tshering Sherpa won the best gross award with 32 points, whereas Shreejay Acharya claimed the most birdies award with three birdies to his credit.

Harmit Singh Sodhi won the guest section award ahead of Rabin Rana, while Sushila Thapa and Rajendra Shrestha were awarded with the special prizes for Pokhara and Dharan members. Other winners of the tournament included Shrihar Rana (longest drive), Ang Tshering Sherpa (closest tot he pin), Mithun Rai (12th ISME Surprise prize), Jayandra Shah (booby award) and Birendra Subba (best sports person).

In the pro event held from December 17-21, Shiva Ram Shrestha emerged victorious with a total of 274, while Ram Thapa and Purna Sharma were second and third respectively. A total of 22 pros and 23 single-handicap amateurs including six caddies took part in the tournament. Out of the total prize money of Rs 300,00, the top three pros earned Rs 65,000, Rs 37,000 and Rs 30,000 respectively.

Among amateurs, Jaya Ram Shrestha was the winner and Rupak Acharya runner-up in the gross section. Krishna Hari Mizar won the net section ahead of Tham Bahadur Rai.

The CMS also had organised the All Nepal Caddies Open Championship on December 10. Jaya Ram Shrestha and Krishna Hari Mizar came first and second winning Rs 17,000 and Rs 11,700 respectively.

Managing Director of ISME Pvt Ltd Nagender K Pampati, President of Nepal Golf Association Pradeep Kumar Shrestha, and President of RNGC Madhukar Yakthumba gave away prizes to the winners.
