Gyanu Baba defend title

KATHMANDU: Gyanu Baba School of Pokhara defended the fourth Dhorpatan Blue Sky Cup Women’s Double League Volleyball title here today,

Gyanu Baba edged Fishtail by just one point to win the league for their third consecutive title. In a deciding last league match, Gyanu Baba beat Fishtail 25-19, 25-18, 25-18 to finish with 23 points. Fishtail ended up runners up with 22 points.

Nepal Police Club (NPC) and Angel Hearts finished third and fourth respectively. NPC saw off Angel Hearts School 25-17, 25-12, 25-10 while New Diamond overcame PLA Sports Club 25-14, 22-25, 15-25, 25-13, 15-12. NPC earned a total 21 points, three more than Angel Hearts.

Top three teams received Rs 100,000, Rs 50,000 and Rs 30,000 respectively. Likewise, Angle Hearts, PLA Sports Club, New Diamond and Deep Jyoti won Rs 20,000, Rs 15,000, Rs 12,000 and Rs 10,000 each.

Sipora Gurung of Fishtail was adjudged the best player in the league and pocketed 11.66 grams of gold. Sipora was also the declared the best player in the second edition. Manju Gurung of Gyanu Baba was named the most valuable player and was awarded with Rs 5,000.

Likewise, Ramila Tandukar of New Diamond was declared the best spiker, Manati Ale of Gyanu Baba the best defender, Binita Budhathoki of PLA Sports Club the best centre and Kausalya KC of Gyanu Baba the best coach. Nepal Olympic Committee President Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan among others gave away the prizes.
