Himalayan Bank lose momentum
KATHMANDU: NMB Bank defeated Himalayan Bank by five wickets in the Super League stage match of the Soaltee Crowne Plaza Super Sixes Cricket Tournament here at the Tribhuvan University (TU) Stadium today.
Himalayan Bank earlier beat APCA Nepal to top Group C and carried two points courtesy their win over runners-up Bank of Asia Nepal (BoAN) in the preliminary league.
In the Super League, Himalayan Bank made 58-1 in their allotted five overs before NMB Bank surpassed the total losing one wicket in 4.1 overs. Mohan KC scored an unbeaten 32 off 15 balls to architect NMB’s victory. Both NMB, who finished second to Indian Embassy in Group D and so failed to earn two points from the preliminary league, and Himalayan Bank now have two points each in the Super League Group B.
In another Super League Group C match, Standard Chartered Bank hammered Kumari Bank by 52 runs and collected two points.
Standard Chartered and Kumari had finished second in Group E and Group F in the preliminary league. Avinash Chhetri struck 36 not out off just 12 balls as Standard Chartered made 80-5 before dismissing Kumari Bank for a paltry 28 runs in 4.4 overs. Avinash also shone with the ball taking three wickets without conceding a run.
Earlier, all 16 teams were confirmed places in the Super Leagues. Citizens International Bank and Nepal Investement Bank from Group A, Spice Nepal and Nepal SBI Bank from Group B, Himalayan Bank and BoAN from Group C, Indian Embassy and NMB Bank from Group D, Laxmi Bank and Standard Chartered Bank from Group E, NIC Bank and Kumari Bank from Group F, Kantipur Group and Surya Nepal from Group G and Nabil Bank and Nagarik Media from Group F made it through to the Super Leagues as group leaders and runners-up respectively. The leaders carried two points courtesy their win over the runners-up.
In the preliminary league match, Himalayan Bank beat APCA Nepal by 36 runs in the Group C match. Himalayan Bank scored 82-0. Raj Shrestha remained unbeaten on 34 off 13, while Siddhartha Sharma scored not out 32 off just 13 balls. In reply, Jit Bahadur Pun made 30 off 17 deliveries as APCA Nepal were restricted to 46-4 in five overs.
In other matches, NMB Bank defeated New Business Age by six wickets in Group D, Standard Chartered beat Team Samsung by 51 runs in Group E, Kumari Bank registered a nail-biting one-run victory over Siddhartha Bank, Kantipur Group edged past hosts Soaltee Crowne Plaza by seven runs and Nagarik Media saw off Global Bank by 35 runs.
