HIMS enter regional tournament
Kathmandu, June 14
Himalaya International Model School advanced to the regional tournament of the Coca-Cola Cup Inter-school Football Tournament here on Tuesday.
HIMS came from a goal down to defeat Anmol Jyoti 2-1 in the final match of Group B at the Sano Gaucharan grounds. Sagar Tamang put Anmol Jyoti ahead with a goal in the 11th minute before Digyal Singi Lama levelled the scores in the 44th minute. Nipun Lama then scored the winning goal for HIMS in the 58th minute.
Lama was named the man-of-the-match. National team member Deepak Bhusal handed over the trophy to Lama.
In other matches of the Kathmandu district tournament, Gems School, St Xavier’s School and Gajurmukhi Boarding School registered victories. Gems beat Snowland Ranag Light of Education School 3-1. Binit GC, Raj Sharma and Piyush Paudel scored one goal each for Gems after Suresh Budha had had provided the lead to Snowland.
Also, St Xavier’s School defeated Nepal APF School 2-0 riding on goals from Sirshak Bahadur Shrestha and Kush Thapa. Likewise, Gajurmukhi outplayed Shahid Dharmabhakta School 3-0. Kushal Khanal, Sandesh Khanal and Jagdish Puri scored one each for Gajurmukhi.
The event, organised jointly by Coca-Cola Nepal, All Nepal Football Association and Ministry for Youth and Sports, is divided into three parts – district, regional and national. The district level matches will conclude on June 16, while the regional tournaments are slated for August 21-31. The national tournament will be played from September 5-21.
